Listen to WHAW for interviews with Franz got a visa to visit the United States, to continue his search. He came to Weston hoping to meet his father. That's when things started to go badly. Anthoefer learned that Craig had died many years before. So, he went to court and got permission to have Craig's body exhumed for DNA testing. (A process that was unduly delayed by some members of the community and state government who opposed the tests). AND then the DNA testing (for some unexplained reason) took nearly 3-years to complete. While awaiting the test results, Franz tried to follow in his fathers footsteps and registered as a mayoral candidate in the upcoming 1998 Weston City Election. On the day before the munnicipal voting then Weston Police Chief George Blake arrested Anthoefer and turned him over to agents of the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service, who had received an "anonymous" tip that Franz had "over-stayed" the time alloted by his VISA, and therefore was in the U.S. illegally. On the basis of these charges, the FEDS deported Anthoefer---as an "undesirable alien"--which means he CANNOT return to pursue his quest to prove his parentage and ultimately become a U.S. Citizen. |
