[OzyDads] My report of the annual meeting
amnesty international

Saturday 29. Mai 2004 in Eppelheim,
Germany

The campaign

LOOK & ACT: Prevent violance against women

... so that women and girls in the future
can live without violance

does not come from Germany. The action was
suggested by the international committee
IOC on the international council meeting
ICM. The international council meeting
takes place every 2 years. The last
international council meeting was
September 2003 in Mexico. The next
international council meeting is in
September 2005.

Whether sections had influence on the
campaign decision of the IOC, is unknown.

For introduction a film USA-production.
(film can be ordered by the local groups):
"Everywhere in the world, independently of
the culture, women become a victim of rape
. World-wide each 3. woman is abused 1
time in her life sexually or otherwise.
Everywhere in the world there are
violations of human rights by relatives."
Pictures predominantly from Jordan,
Afghanistan and India. nice music, pretty
women / engaged women also with head
kerchief.

Many people in India say: "it is an
indication of love, if she tolerates
violance or rape." - but that is not a
proof of love. That is an indication for
the fact, that she feels helplessly
submited under national force. For the
governments their protection does not have
any priority.

Note:

this is a pretty well argument. Let me try
it also: "if a father loves his childeren,
he will release them." That is not a proof
of love. That is an indication for the
fact, that he feels helplessly submited
under national force. For the governments
the Father-child-relationship does not
have any priority.

Emphasis / main topics of the next 2 years

speech of Barbara Lochbihler, general
secretary ai-Germany:

* encroachments by police officers

* human rights work of the European Union

* Roma and Sinti have problems in the new
European Union states. The Central Council
of the Roma and Sinti talks about
discrimination and poverty. The European
Union must be reminded of the fact that
there are violations of human rights in
its area of application. Within the
European Union there is no uniform opinion
to these questions.

* the situation of women and girls in and
after armed conflicts. House destruction
in Colombia, Afghanistan, Israel and
Palestina, the Sudan...

* it is very important that violations of
human rights are documented. - we demand
active human rights work from the
government, e.g. in the schools

* (incomplete)

WSK: Wirtschaftliche, Soziale, Kulturelle
Rechte.

ESC: Economic, Social, Cultural Rights.
That is relatively new for ai.

Anja Mihr, candidate to the executive
committee spokeswoman:

There are some opinions, ai should stay
limited to its core authority. e.g. union
work is something only for trade unions. -
I think, all local groups shall or have to
or should or would have at the same time
the same actions to accomplish. That is an
indication of unity. If you just do the
actions, you like to do, then the new
campagne would never start.. At the
beginning we were told, the campagne will
last for 2 years, but it will take more
time.

Here I meet the lady from the
youth_well_fair_office. The lady with the
"if the mother dosnt like, we can do
nothing for you" mentality. Strengthened
in the firm conviction  to have all human
rights of the world on her side. She knows
exactly, what she does. Further on she
will energetically support the campaign
for women's force.

Remark: many wars seem to be led because
of women or in concerns around women. It
seems to please them, as long as they are
on the safe side. The old Knight-plays
mentality has somewhat universal. Football
cannot keep up there.

My talk with Barbara Lochbihler:

TS: y 300,000 children are affected by
separation or divorce of their parents.
Already after one year nearly half of them
have no more contact to their fathers. In
the range of the not-conjugal relations
the dark number is particularly high. That
is a structural problem. The civil code
disadvantages fathers.

Barbara Lochbihler: The men avoid
responsibility and they do not pay. One
must make that the topic.

Thomas Sochart: No father wants to be
degradiert just to be a paying father.
There the payment moral sinks. I would
like to take more care of my children, but
I'm not allwed to do this.

Barbara Lochbihler: your problem, not mine
.

Thomas Sochart: Are women also debt, if
they are raped?

Barbara Lochbihler: One cannot compare
that. I am a woman and I am party for
women.

Barbara Lochbihler: Why do the men let
themselves in at all again and again with
this "the bad" women?

Thomas Sochart: Women are not bad. Fathers
are disadvantaged by the civil code. Men
recognize the legal situation often too
late.

Barbara Lochbihler: Are you in the media?

Thomas Sochart: Our topic was several
times on the title pages of Spiegel and
focus-magazin, there were talc shows to
the topic and our internet sides have lot
of visitors.

Barbara Lochbihler: How large is the
problem and which countries are affected
by it?

Thomas Sochart: The problem extends to the
USA, Canada, Great Britain, Germany,
Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland,
Japan, Australia, New Zealand. A map is in
the internet. France, India, Cuba and
South Africa we draw green-coloured.

Barbara Lochbihler: Are there politicians.
.. - or of which parliamentary group you
are supported?

Thomas Sochart: There is no parliamentary
group, which has realy written the equal
rights of the sexes into their party book.
It is similar as at the ethics commission:
each delegate decides for itself. There is
no coalition obligation.

Thomas Sochart: The campaign: "... so that
women and girls in the future can
live without violance" goes not far
enough. I would like that all humans can
live in peace. Why men are excluded from
the campaign?

Barbara Lochbihler: The times, where
soldiers on the battleground fought each
other, are past. More and more frequently
the civilian population is in suffer. And
those mostly are women. Still never in
history with wars as many women came
around the life as today. This is an
alarming indication.

This was a pretty well talk. I like her
for her open mind.

There are no problems... only solutions and
opportunities.

but the last bastion of discrimination is
in Family Law, with the target being
FATHERS WHO LOVE THEIR CHILDREN yet have
been disenfranchised as a parent.
